No matter where you are in your career, LinkedIn is a powerful tool to gain meaningful connections. Sure, you can have hundreds and thousands of people in your “network”, but what good is your network if you can’t or don’t actually speak to any of them?
Russell Wilson is now the highest paid player in the NFL EVER. $140 million. Well, I was lucky enough to meet and chat with Russell while throwing the football around right after my hernia surgery last spring.
I learned so much in my time with Russell and my greatest takeaway was, "Greatness has no patience."
One thing I've found with working full-time is that there's a new type of stress that we've never experienced. Getting assignments done for a class and coming up on a deadline is one thing, but the stress work brings is completely different. Diving into a new space, trying to remember the skills you have and bringing them to life in your role, working with new people.....all the things that a new job entails are quite stressful.
Back in August I was on my way home from work and had my usual weekly phone call with my mom. I typically call and we catch up on what's going on at work and in life. It usually ends up in me pulling the car over outside my place as we share stories about what's going on as we laugh and just chat. This has been something I started doing in college when I'd be driving back from class and honestly it's been one of the best things I've done. Catching up with my mom and dad over a 30 min phone call is just what I need as I wind down my days. It's made moving much easier on me and made being thousands of miles away feel not as distant.
This phone call in August, this one was different though……….
Man....let me first say that the first 2.5 years of my career has been one helluva journey! My first job with Starbucks was with Teavana, where I worked on the marketing for the Teavana retail stores and after just over a year - we closed the stores; meaning I lost my job. I was lucky enough to land on the team that stayed and closed the stores, then ended up getting promoted and moving into the Starbucks CPG business.
